ABOUT
Four musicians walk into a bar.
There’s a glass on a table. They find themselves faced with the age-old question: is the glass half full, or is the glass half empty?
No one knows. You see, the musicians didn’t actually walk into the bar. They wanted to, because “drinks”! But, it was April 2020, and there was a pandemic. Everything was off-limits. It was Covid times, so the bar was closed. That, however, didn’t stop them.
On the contrary, inspired by the notion of “no, you can’t,” the situation actually resulted in the creative team of Victor Szabo (Guitars) and James Phillips (Vocals) coming together with the (other) creative team of Mike Dykeman (Bass) and Grant Moynes (Drums). And because they couldn’t walk into that bar, the four musicians undertook instead to establish a solid online connection where they wrote, recorded, mixed and mastered an original EP remotely. I mean, don’t get me wrong, they drank too, of course. Just not together in person. That’s right. These four musicians haven’t been together in a bar, let alone even in the same room. Ever.
The result is SZABOTAGE, and the band’s debut EP,
Six-Pack.
Inspired by multiple influences, including Black Sabbath, Faith No More, the Blizzard of Ozz, Anthrax, Tool, Nirvana, Sound Garden, and Opeth (naming only a few), SZABOTAGE draws its roots from the masters and the giants of heavy. In a non-traditional manner, they add a healthy shot of creativity and their own flavour of musical mastery to bring forward a unique, brutal, tender, funny, and heartfelt debut offering.
When asked, “what was the hardest part of this project for the band?” the unanimous consensus was “writing this GD band bio!”
Now we’re heading to the bar. Is the glass half full? Is the glass half empty? Hopefully, we’ll see you there.
